 Held on October 26, 2004, the first annual "Catwalk for a Cure" luncheon, fashion show, and awareness event surpassed its financial goal of $80,000 by raising $140,000 in order to advance the mission of ASCF. With celebrity guest speaker Ivana Trump and a fashion show by Saks Fifth Avenue featuring the designs of Bill Hamilton, the sold-out event proved to be one of Houston’s most coveted fundraising tickets. With a moving and eloquent tribute by her daughter, Erin Holmes, the event honored the memory of Mrs. Sherry Holmes and the strength and courage she exemplified during her battle with sarcoma. Addressing more than 300 guests, Ivana Trump praised those working hard to advance the mission of ASCF by stating, "We are now the fighters of sarcoma. And we must fight hard and conquer it together." Local KTRK ABC 13 news personality Ms. Jessica Willey and Mr. Michael Kemper of Michael Kemper Day Spa and Salon served as the event emcees. The funds raised by this event have advanced our mission and allowed us to move closer to our ultimate goal of finding a cure for sarcoma. With the proceeds, ASCF has been able to provide two physician scientist grants, continue providing support to Association of Cancer Online Resources (ACOR), update and distribute the Sarcoma Survivor’s Notebook, and hire a full time Director of External Relations and Programs. ASCF would like to heartily thank our co-chairs Erin Heath and Amy Palmisano, guest speaker Ivana Trump, retail partner Saks Fifth Avenue, venue partner Hotel Derek, media sponsor Paper City, emcees Jessica Willey and Michael Kemper, underwriters, committee members, and supporters for making the first "Catwalk for a Cure" such a huge success.
